There were 89 responses in all. Participants were asked to answer the following questions: how they rated their English proficiency level, what areas of English they wanted to improve, whether they like using English or not, when they began not to like English (if they do not like it), what types of English lessons had made good or bad impressions, and what kinds of English lessons they hoped to receive at the university.\n The results indicated that participants had little confidence in their English ability, and more than half reported not \nliking English. Approximately 70% of the participants from some department did not like learning English, and most stated that they found it difficult to learn English when they were in junior high school.
