 note = {I analyze Ebisu Ko, a mutual financing association of the Utsumibune in this paper. The Utsumibune was a general term of the commercial ships based on Utsumi, Chita-gun Owari in the Edo era. In the official report of Shozo Abe, Osaka Machi Bugyo, a magistrate in Osaka to the Kanjyo Bugyosho, the office of an accountant general of the Tokugawa shogunnate in 1842, Shozo pointed out that business of the Utsumibune was so brisk that it brought about a slump to Osaka's market.},
