This industry expanded on the process of Japanese economic growth but the high personel expenditure and the rapid appreciation of yen have reduced its competitiveness. We discuss the internationalizion of apparel industry, especially that in Gifu area, which has been one of the measures taken to meet this situation. Some of our findings and remarks are as follows. (1) Apparel firms in Gifu, which are small business, have increased import of clothing from Asian countries since early 1970's. (2) Main countries producing clothing for Japan were Korea and Taiwan, and, now, are China and ASEAN countries. (3) Most of Japanese apparel firms, especially in Gifu, send all materials to produce clothing, pay processing charges and import clothing. To achieve technological advancement and keep quality are the most important concern to them. (4) Though vertical integration in textile and clothing industry has been promoted by the government, we have to consider an importance of horizontal division of labor and intra-industrial network in the light of the increase of import of clothing and processing trade, and the possibility of de-industrialization.}, pages = {111--125}, title = {アパレル産業の海外展開―岐阜アパレル産業を中心として―}, volume = {5}, year = {1992}, yomi = {ウエダ, カズヒロ} }
